Initial 3000 Miles Oil change

I'm opting to do an initial oil change at 3000 miles. Dealer only support 10000 miles.
I'm an Old school mechanic (late 80's apprentice Caterpillar heavy duty mechanic), just the possibility of initial build cuttings, still mindful of oil quality of the 2000's.
What do you suggest?
